Hemant Soren has become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the second time. within three hours of swearing-in, he holds his first cabinet meeting on 29 December. In this cabinet meeting, he made his first major decision. His decision was- to drop all cases against tribals in connection with the Pathalgadi movement of 2017. Also, FIR lodged by Raghubar Das Government opposing the CNT-SPT (Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNT) and the Santhal Paragana Tenancy (SPT) Act) amendment will also be withdrawn. In the cabinet meeting, taking the FIR registered in both these cases. the necessary action was directed to the top officials concerned.
Sunday's decision signifies that Chief Minister Hemant Soren is aware of the simmering discontent among tribals over cases lodged against them and, after sweeping seats reserved for that community in the election, has decided to address their grievances on a priority basis.
The then Raghubar Das government’s decision to amend the tenancy laws in 2017 also saw widespread protests. The Governor had returned the proposal with suggestions leading to the BJP withdrawing it.
In other decisions, the cabinet cleared immediate filling up of vacancies in the government offices along with speedy disbursement of dues to para-teachers, Anganwari workers and student scholarships.
The state cabinet also decided to hold a three-day assembly session from January 6 and appointed JMM legislator Stephen Marandi the pro-tem speaker, who will administer oaths to the newly elected members of the fifth assembly.
The cabinet also decided to change the logo of Jharkhand government and Also, decided to distribute blankets and woolen caps to the poor and authorized the deputy commissioners for immediate action.
